Choosing between a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) and a one-time Lump Sum investment remains one of the most consequential decisions facing retail investors in Indian mutual funds. This paper undertakes an empirical comparison of the two investment routes using historical Net Asset Value (NAV) and return data drawn from AMFI and NSE for the period January 2023 to June 2026, spanning a full market cycle of expansion, correction and recovery.
